Biography: Eleanor Bird came to writing fiction after a career in writing fact. She studied history at Oxford University in the early 80s and then took a postgraduate diploma in the history of art, but soon began working in marketing and communications. Jobs in big organisations – an insurance broker, the National Trust and a nursing trade union – all honed her writing skills and she decided to go freelance as an editor and copywriter in 2000. She moved to the rural Welsh Borders soon afterwards, consolidating a love of nature and the countryside which developed during childhood holidays and expanded during her time at the National Trust. Eleanor returned to art history when she began lecturing to community classes in 2010. The lure of writing fiction took hold when she joined a creative writing class.

She is currently working on her first novel, which combines an exploration of human emotion with observation of the natural world.
