Joanne lau

Joanne Lau is a Canadian-Chinese writer living in the UK. Joanne started her career as an award-winning stand-up comedian, before transitioning to comedy writing and was in the BBC Writersroom (Comedy Room) and on the BBC New Talent Hotlist 2017. Joanne has since been nominated for several awards.

Joanne branched into TV Drama in 2015 and was a winner in the BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forum for TV Drama, and finalist for the Cinequest Teleplay 60 competition in America.

Joanne recently started writing for theatre and her play LOVE BY NUMBERS was performed at the Canal Cafe Theatre and has been published in an anthology. Joanne’s play WORTH with Yellow Earth Theatre was shortlisted for the Royal Court Theatre/Kudos Writing Fellowship 2019.

Joanne has been involved in writers’ workshops for Famalam, Gigglebiz, Biggleton, and Go Jetters and was selected to attend the BBC residential for CBeebies in 2018.

Joanne is currently working on TV series concepts across the board, and when not writing, she works as a neuroscientist in cancer research.
