STUART ORME

Agent: Conrad Williams

Biography: Stuart trained as a director at Granada Television in the early eighties working in comedy, drama and documentaries and then formed his own company in London to make music videos for over 50 artistes including Genesis, Phil Collins, Sade, The Pretenders, Level 42, Meatloaf, Dave Stewart, James Taylor and Whitney Houston.

He moved into film drama in 1986 with THE FEAR, a serial for Euston Films, starring Iain Glen. His first feature, THE WOLVES OF WILLOUGHBY CHASE, based on the Joan Aitken novel, followed in 1988, before spending two years in Hollywood directing an HBO feature, THE HEIST, starring Pierce Brosnan and a Robert Heinlein science fiction feature, THE PUPPETMASTERS, starring Donald Sutherland for Disney.

Stuart returned to the UK to work on a series of award-winning single film dramas and mini series: THE SCULPTRESS and IVANHOE for the BBC, GOODBYE MR. CHIPS, starring Martin Clunes for ITV, THE LOST WORLD, starring Bob Hoskins and digital dinosaurs for the BBC in 2001, and, more recently, COLDITZ, starring Damien Lewis and Tom Hardy, GHOSTBOAT, starring David Jason, COLD BLOOD and MOBILE for Granada Television.

In 2009, Stuart began work on the first series of JACK TAYLOR, starring Iain Glen, which he also developed and later produced. Other credits have included LEWIS, MERLIN and FOYLE’S WAR, where he helped bring Foyle into the murky waters of MI5 after his war service as a policeman.

In 2015 he directed ARTHUR AND GEORGE for ITV, a serial starring Martin Clunes as Arthur Conan Doyle.
