Ken Hom, along with his co-presenter Ching-He Huang, has won the Food Broadcast Award 2013 at the Guild of Food Writers Awards. The award was for China: A Culinary Adventure, a four-part television series broadcast on BBC2 last summer. The Telegraph wrote 'watching Hom at work was a treat'.

The programme, which was produced by Keo Films, had also been nominated for the Award for Work on Food and Travel.

The tie-in book, EXPLORING CHINA: Our Culinary Adventure was published by BBC Books.

Emma Gardner, another client on Blake Friedmann's growing list of food writers, was also nominated. Her blog Poires au Chocolat was in contention for the Food Blog of the Year award -- an accolade it was awarded in 2012.

Peter James suffers spectacular 85 mph car crash, but walks away unscathed

DEAD MAN'S TIME UK final cover.JPG

Peter James has walked away from an 85mph car crash in which he suffered cracked ribs and a bruised spleen. He had been racing at Brands Hatch, where he'd been leading prior to the incident.

His 1965 vintage BMW was clipped from behind by a Lotus Cortina as he took a fast downhill bend at 85mph. He said: 'If you were a baddie and you wanted to spin a car round, you'd hit the back section just there by the rear wheel. I always wondered what it would feel like. I saw grass, gravel, tarmac… Apparently I rolled four times.'

He insists that he is recovering well, and is determined not to allow his injuries upset his publicity commitments for the new novel. His frenetic schedule takes in his hometown of Brighton, swiftly succeeded by a US trip and a tour of Britain and Ireland. 'As soon as the car came to a halt I thought, "I've got my book launch next week, is my right arm OK to sign copies?"… We've got Dan Brown to try and beat.'

DEAD MAN'S TIME, Peter's 9th in the bestselling Roy Grace series is released on 6 June and is published in the UK by Macmillan.

For more information see this article in the Independent.

Praise for the Roy Grace series:

'Peter James is one of the best crime writers in the business.' -- Karin Slaughter

'British author James dreams up a horrific intersection of extreme perversion and Internet technology in his frighteningly, expertly constructed second Det. Supt. Roy Grace novel... The rapid-fire suspense builds to a terrifying, graphic conclusion that leaves tantalizing room for future instalments in the series.' -- Publishers Weekly (starred review)

'Roy Grace is the very best of the British detectives - there's a whole bunch, there's just tons, but he is the best.  What makes his books better than other people's books I think is that the ordinary people in these books react in the way they would react.  They have absolute emotional credibility.' -- Jeff Park, 'Front Row' BBC Radio

'James has created a flawed and compelling character in his Detective James Superintendent Roy Grace series, and the tense suspense in DEAD MAN'S GRIP will keep readers turning the pages…Fans will love this latest Roy Grace thriller, and newcomers will find 'Dead Man's Grip' the perfect place to start.' -- Jeff Ayers, Associated Press

'Exceptional, knock-your-socks-off.' -- Washington Post

Andy Briggs' $12 million 3D Action Adventure film, LEGENDARY, will be shown on 8,000 3D screens and 5,000 2D in China at its release in August; compared with just over 8,000 screens total for the latest Bond offering.

This huge reception for a foreign film release is almost unprecedented in the country, so this is exciting news for the feature - and for Andy, in his dual role as Executive Producer as well as screenwriter.

The film stars action legend Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV, The Expendables) and Scott Adkins (The Expendables 2, The Bourne Ultimatum) and is directed by Eric Styles (Relative Values, True True Lie). It is produced by Midsummer Films, and is due for release later this year.

THE SCULPTORS OF MAPUNGUBWE, Mda's first novel since 2009, will be published in October 2013. As they grow, their rivalry intensifies and this enmity underpins an irresistibly rich fable of love and family.

Zakes Mda, notable South African novelist, poet and playwright of more than twenty works, has won numerous literary awards in South Africa and the United States. Speaking of the deal he said, 'I feel greatly honored that my next novel, THE SCULPTORS OF MAPUNGUBWE, has found a home with Kwela, a publishing house that has been at the forefront of promoting South African writing in the last twenty years.'
