Desi Lyon

Biography: Desi writes character-led drama and comedy-drama for film, TV and radio. Her stories are often about outsiders and the experience of not quite fitting into the worlds or the bodies we find ourselves in. Family, deceit, vanity, guilt, love and raging ‘against the dying of the light’ are threaded through her work, which is always laced with dark humour and hope.

When not writing, Desi teaches English and creative writing. Her TV pilot LESSONS, based on her experience of teaching in schools, was a semi-finalist in the Blue Cat TV pilot competition, a second rounder in the Austin Screenplay competition and was also selected by Phil Shelley for a London Screenwriter’s Festival ‘Writer’s Lab’ workshop.

Her bittersweet short film script MR PERFECT, an authentic tale of desire and longing which challenges the way that older people are represented - led to an invitation to the BFI Southeast Hub Producers’ meeting and was also a semi-finalist in the Blue Cat competition and the 2023 Austin script competition.

Desi was one of the writers on STORY OF A NEW WORLD for a German film production company that is currently in pre-production.

Her comedy-drama Christmas feature, TALKING TO MY ELF, returning mini- series IS SHE DEAD YET? and returning 6 x 50 series, THE FABULIST (co-written) are at the pitching stage.

Other projects in development: a school-based series called SWALLOWING; a Rom-Com feature based on MR PERFECT and a Drama Feature about a boy who lives a double life.
