Farrukh Dhondy

Biography: Screenwriter, playwright and best-selling novelist, Farrukh in his incarnation as Commissioning Editor for Multi-Cultural Programming for Channel 4 (84-97) commissioned hundreds of hours of TV in all genres, including the Oscar nominated SALAAM BOMBAY, Shekhar Kapur's BANDIT QUEEN, and award-winning TV shows like DESMONDS and FAMILY PRIDE.
During his time at Channel 4, he wrote the comedy series TANDOORI NIGHTS (1985–87) about the rivalry of two curry-house owners.
In 2005, Dhondy wrote the screenplay for the Bollywood historical blockbuster MANGAL PANDEY: THE RISING, starring Aamir Khan and Toby Stephens.
His children's stories include KBW (Keep Britain White), a study of a young white boy's response to anti-Bengali racism. In 2011, Dhondy published a translation of selections from the Sufi poet Jalaluddin Rumi, RUMI: A NEW TRANSLATION.
In 2012, Dhondy scripted a short film called The K File, directed by Oorvazi Irani, which was a fictionalization of the judgement of Ajmal Kasab. That year, Farrukh's opera based on Rudyard Kipling's JUST SO stories, score by Danyal Dhondy, was given its world premier performance at the Riverside Studios in August in the Tete a Tete opera festival.
In 2013, Dhondy's play DEVDAS premiered in London and was reproduced worldwide and his novel PROPHET OF LOVE was published by Harper Collins.
In 2021, Verso books published Farrukh’s autobiography FRAGMENTS AGAINST MY RUIN: A LIFE.
Conrad Williams represents Farrukh for his writing for stage and screen.
