Garen Ewing's poster for the musical Return to the Forbidden Planet has been chosen as one of the designs for the new collection of Royal Mail stamps. The collection, which has been personally approved by H.M. the Queen, will be launched on 24 February.
The Royal Mail has collaborated with Webb & Webb Design Ltd. to design a set of stamps that commemorate famous musicals of the West End. The stamps will feature one of eight musicals including Oliver, Blood Brothers and Billy Elliot. Webb & Webb have also created a presentation pack, special hand stamps and a first-day cover for the set (featuring a montage of 17 facades of West End theatres). Praise for THE RAINBOW ORCHID:
'An extraordinary example of the craft of comics. Everything Garen Ewing draws looks amazing from beautiful buildings, to classic cars, intricate objects and vital people, while his story telling is utterly assured ... There is a real sense of peril in this volume thanks to Garen's knack for choreographing scenes and his story telling skills ... an all-ages, all-people adventure classic happening right now before our very eyes. Get onboard immediately before everybody else is talking about it.' -- Comics - On The Ration (blog)
'... every page a visual delight and his classic adventure tale a pleasurable read ... a great adventure, with echoes of the past, classic storytelling and beautifully cinematic, stylish Euro-style artwork.' -- Forbidden Planet International (online)
