Documentary feature based on Pauline Black’s biography BLACK BY DESIGN set for sixty screen Odeon release on 18th March 2025

March 17, 2025 Intern BlakeFriedmann

The Selecter lead singer Pauline Black tells her extraordinary life story alongside archive footage, music and guest contributions in this compelling feature documentary based on her autobiography BLACK BY DESIGN. Pauline also traces how her legacy came about and its relevance to the world today, especially where modern society pushes the boundaries of gender, politics, race and identity. Having premiered with aplomb at the 69th BFI London Film Festival PAULINE BLACK: A TWO TONE STORY is set to have sixty screenings in Odeon cinemas across the UK as well as screening at 2025 International Film Festivals in Copenhagen, Pau [France], Germany, Australia & Norway. It will also receive television transmission on Sky Arts on the 16th of April 2025.

The documentary was written by Pauline Black & Jane Mingay, and directed by Jane Mungay, and produced by Nikki Parrott for Tigerlilly Films.

Contributors to the film include the late Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson (The Selecter), Skin (Skunk Anansie), Damon Albarn (Blur & Gorillaz), Don Letts (Big Audio Dynamite & BBC 6 Music DJ, Lynval Golding (The Specials), Mykaell Riley (Steel Pulse), Rhoda Dakar (The Bodysnatchers), Sonia Boyce and Jools Holland.

Pauline’s film/TV rights are repped by Conrad Williams at Blake Friedmann and Pauline is managed by David Farrow at DMF Music.
